3R-BioPhosphate Ltd. (since 1989) is a technology-intensive company playing a leading international role in commercial up-cycling of agri/food industrial by-products and water treatment adsorbents by unique zero emission pyrolysis and other advanced/innovative integrated technologies for high added value material recovery in economical industrial scale and performance. The unique specialization is ABC animal bone char processing and applications for BioPhosphate biofertilizer and water treatment adsorbent. Originally the company has been an joint venture with ALSTOM subsidy (Lang Machine Works, since 1870) and became independent organization in 2001. Past years, 3R/Edward Someus coordinated and key technology designed multiple international applied research and commercial technology/product driven development programs (EU FP5, EUFP6, EUFP7, CIP-Ecoinnovation, H2020, see 3R project references) in the specific field of carbon refinery, biochar and phosphorus recovery.
The core competence of the company is the ecological recycling and added value reuse of unexploited biomass by specific and advanced high temperature 3R Zero Emission pyrolysis and biotech means. The 3R is the only one vendor in the EU who is specialized on high nutrient dense BioPhosphate recovery from food grade animal bones.
The company is the original source and inventor of “3R” Recycle-Reduce-Reuse zero emission pyrolysis technology & BioPhosphate product developments.The company is the only one biochar vendor in Europe, with official and accredited Authority permit to use qualified and eco-safe biochar in open ecological soil environment (permit to lawfully market BioPhosphate: 6300/13393-2/2019, that is interlinked to EU 2019/515 that shall apply from 19 April, 2020). The company also received Authority permit for organic phosphorus recovery plant full industrial installation and operation in West Hungary at 3R-BIOFARM up-cycling centre.

The 3R ZERO EMISSION pyrolysis process and NUTRIENT RECOVERY innovation accelerated when the European Union priority selected the 3R development programme (see 3R project references). Over the past 20 years the company has taken up a unique leading role in the field of international RTD and specialized industrial engineering activities of pyrolysis, biochar and animal by-products high added value valorization. The company coordinated, key technology designed and proven industrial demonstrated multiple international RTD programs in the specific field of carbon refinery, Phosphorus recovery and high added value utilization of un-exploited biomass resources, targeting two main product groups:[/dropcap]
- Bone grist– to – Recovered BioPhosphate fertiliser: concentrated bio-phosphate recovery from food grade animal bones and utilization of the output products in the rapidly growing market sectors of sustainable and ecological farming and adsorbent water treatment sectors.
- Processed animal protein – to – Liquid bio-fuel: Category 3 and 2 animal by-products converted to refined bio-oil for bio-energy applications.
By 2024, the R&D stages were successfully completed, finalized and the 3R technology is in TRL6 stage ready for market uptake.
